3. Health 

HIV/AIDS 

CHAD-ET's involvement in the prevention of HIV/AIDS and the effort it has made thus far to increase the involvement of the community in the provision of care and support is currently bearing good results. In this regard, it has trained peer educators, Home Based Care Providers and counselors, carried out prevention programs among youth in and out of school, women's groups and at places of work. Furthermore, it has been extending support for thousands of children who have lost their parents due to AIDS.

3.1 Community Based HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care project 

Objectives:  

1.      Prevent new infections through increasing knowledge and practice pertinent to HIV/AIDS; 

2.      Mitigate the effects of AIDS among those infected and affected;  

3.      Enhance the participation of communities and local stakeholders in the effort to prevent the spread of the epidemic and the provision of Care and Support for those infected and affected. 

Major Activities: 

1.     Prevention  

          Training of peer educators

          Education trough drama and music

          VCT demand creation

          Condom promotion

          Development and distribution of IEC/educational  materials

2.     Care and support 

          Training and deployment of Home Based Care Providers/Volunteers

          Training of  Voluntary Community Counselors

          Social support (Financial food, bedding, linen, blanket, etc)

          Educational support for orphaned children 

3.     Voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) 

·         Provide voluntary counseling and testing  

3.2           Adolescent Reproductive Health (ARH) 

Objectives:  

1.      Work towards achieving reduced fertility rate among Adolescents and youth

2.      Create access to RH services

3.      Increase knowledge and promote actions regarding harmful traditional practices 

Major activities: 

          Training of Community Based Reproductive Health Agents

          Training of peer educators

          Establishment of RH clubs

          Provision of family planning services

          Linkages with health institutions

          Production  and dissemination of IEC material using
local languages 

3.3           Environmental health 

Objective: 

- Create a suitable environment for the healthy growth and development of children in the target area 

Major activities:

-          Enhance the awareness of communities regarding the environment,

-          Strengthen local initiatives to keep the environment clean
